A method of sharing route information among differing base maps.

In a system where route information is transmitted from a central computer (CC) to a mobile terminal (MT) in the form of link IDs, unambiguity between the CC and MT can be achieved by using the same map on both ends. In reality, a variety of map databases exist, each for their own purpose; and consistency between the maps cannot be easily established. In this paper, a method of sharing route information among systems where map databases differ is introduced. The CC-MT interface is loosely bound, creating small gaps in the network where the two maps contradict. The MT autonomously attempts to connect the gaps to restore the original route. This method can overcome differences in overpass models and grid definition, but was found to be sensitive to contradiction in network topology and traffic regulation attributes. The MT can detect the contradicting link, and will skip it to solve many of these cases, for practical use in applications such as Centrally determined Dynamic Route Guidance Systems (CDRGS). (A*)
