Experiments which have as their purpose the analysis of the effects of a certain medicament on the driving ability and driving behaviour must take place under controlled conditions, which are comparable and repeatable. While at experiments in real traffic there are to many intervening factors, and at test track experiments the conditions differ too much from real traffic, the solution can be found in laboratory experiments with the driving simulator.
