One of the countermeasures for improving existing road system is abolishing the hazardous road locations on the road network. Slovenia is dealing with - more or less - the same problem as other new EU member states: the traffic safety on our roads is not at the desired level. A lot has to be done in the next years to catch up with European most safe countries like Sweden, United Kingdom or The Nethernds. One of the measures, which has been in force during the last decade on Slovenian national road network present abolishing the hazardous road locations. This paper presents the strategy of dealing with this process in Slovenia. It is composed of several phases: 1. Data collecting phase - Determining the amount, type and method of data collecting. 2. Identification phase - Determining the statistical method, sample size and time period of data collecting for the identification of hazardous road locations. 3. Analysis phase - Determining the more frequent types of accidents. 4. Developing of countermeasures phase - Determining the criteria for selecting countermeasures. 5. Appraisal phase - Determining the most cost effective countermeasure. 6. Monitoring phase - Determining the experimental and statistical method for evaluating the programs of road safety for the purpose of developing feedback information. In the article the strategy of dealing with hazardous road locations is presented and analysed. (A). For the covering abstract of the conference see E217780.
