Methods for the tracing and prediction of traffic flow patterns in the congested regime.

The results of applications of recent methods for the automatic tracing and prediction of traffic flow patterns and time-dependent vehicle trip times are presented. The methods are based on both the complex features of synchronised flow and moving jams and on the predictable properties of real traffic patterns. It is important that the methods perform based on available data without any validation of the parameters of the related models under different infrastructures of a highway, weather, etc.. The methods can be applied both for a tracing of traffic flow patterns and for a reliable traffic forecasting on a highway.
