Samenvatting
Metro do Porto was recently announced by UITP as the best New Light Rail System. The company has achieved an incredible 80% increase in its client rate, which recognises that this new mode of transport has had an impact at a variety of levels. This article describes the elements of this rail system including: efficiency; performance; ticketing; creating new mobility behaviours; and impact on the local population. Also discussed is a detailed description of the fleet vehicles, including their performance, design,visibility and insulation, and modular construction.
