For the realisation of an on-board anti-collision system able to work in any weather condition, a microwave imaging radar is necessary. It must acquire the 3-D radar image of the whole scenario in front of the car with ultra high resolution in order to recognise the obstacles and predict their trajectories. These targets can be achieved if the image characterisation of the obstacles is carried out and a data-base of their signatures is realised. With this aim, an imaging laboratory was set up able to acquire the 3D full polarimetric microwave image of the automotive obstacles with high resolution. Furthermore, the proposed system permits to evaluate the imaging performances of completely filled array as well as sparse array systems. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
