Samenvatting

The assessment of delays is an important step in deciding which type of junction is the most suitable for handling a given traffic problem. A computer program, midas: method for intersection delay assessment, has been written to predict delays at junctions. A wide range of junction types from small major/minor junctions and mini-roundabouts to large free-flow interchanges are covered. The program incorporates capacity and delay formulae recently developed at trrl. Account may be taken of seasonal and hourly variation in flow level and also of the effect of tidal flows during the peak. The program calculates both the traffic dependent queueing delay and also the geometric delay. The output includes details of the performance of the junction as the flow varies through the year, and problems with particular traffic streams may be identified. (Author/publisher)
