Samenvatting

In Hokkaido, many accidents occur on winter roads due to frozen road surfaces and reduced visibility. The risk of multiple collisions is particularly high under reduced visibility conditions caused by snowstorms. Although various measures, including snowbreak fences and forests, have been taken to reduce this risk, they have been insufficient in solving this problem, and the development of new techniques is greatly needed. The researchers focused on millimeter wave radar technology as a promising technology for detecting obstacles on roads when visibility is reduced due to snowstorms, and they are now working on the development of a safe driving support system using this radar It was examined how this safe driving support system should be configured based on the results of a survey conducted to clarify user needs, and field tests were conducted in winter to verify the effectiveness of the system.
