Samenvatting

The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) held its 55th World Congress in Madrid, Spain, focusing on 'seamless mobility'. Public transport needs to change to meet changing patterns of mobility. Planners need to integrate urban planning with transport policies to close the spatial gap between the work place, home, leisure and commercial centres. Public transport operators are making efforts to coordinate timetables and to harmonise ticketing to ensure that waiting times are kept to a minimum. The public are often unaware of the public transport options that are available to them. Public transport operators are using information technology to enhance the quality of information on existing services. Coordination is needed between the operators of different modes of transport within a city. UITP launched a practical study entitled 'A One-Stop Approach to Mobility: The Challenge of Integration' at the Congress.
