Samenvatting

Mini-roundabouts are commonly used in the UK as a cheap and effective traffic management tool. However, there is no published guidance to assist engineers to effectively select sites and design them appropriately. This has resulted in many examples being implemented across the UK being potentially dangerous, confusing or simply not performing the required function. The County Surveyors Society and the Department for Transport has commissioned a study bringing together experience from across the country, to form a view on what constitutes good practice. It has also been essential to identify where installations have been unsuccessful for any reason and use these to help warn against bad practice. The presentation will consider good and bad examples from across the UK and provide an insight into the process undertaken to identify what makes an excellent mini-roundabout. It will also introduce the guidance document. Mini-roundabouts are commonly usedin the UK as a cheap and effective traffic management tool.
