Samenvatting

This report is one of a series of studies undertaken by the TRRL, examining public transport in developing countries, and describes the minibus system of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's capital and largest city. In 1975 a fleet of minibuses was introduced into the city, operating in competition with the existing stage buses. The operation and service of the minibus system is examined to determine why it has been so successful in attracting passengers away from the conventional stage bus system. While the stage bus is more efficient per unit of capacity, various institutional factors have made the minibus more successful. (Author/publisher)
