Samenvatting

The objectives of this research were to (1) prepare a series of recommendations dealing with materials specifications, mix design, structural materials selection, and construction requirements which can be used by asphalt pavement designers to reduce the possibility of premature cracking in the pavement and (2) suggest procedures for verification of the recommendations. All available information from recent and current research and field experience with reviewed and evaluated. Recommendations were prepared for minimizing fatigue low-temperature, and reflection cracking. It was determined that because of the large number of variables, conventional experimental programs for field verification of the recommendations would be very costly and time consuming. An alternate procedure, using Bayesian analysis methodology, is suggested for verification of the recommendations for minimizing premature cracking. (Author/publisher)
