Samenvatting

A total of 1447 adult occupants were surveyed in three cities in New Zealand. Belt wearing for front seat occupants remains high, in the range 79 to 94 percent. Only 54 percent of rear seat passengers had belts available and use remain low. A total of 521 children were surveyed. About one quarter travel in the front seat. In the front seat restraint use varies from 67 percent to 100 percent generally increasing with age. In the rear seat restraint use varies with age from 32 percent to 71 percent. There is evidence for a gradual improvement in provision and use of restraints between 1983 and 1984.
