Samenvatting

This part synthesis evaluates the studies of Module A and those of leisure transport (D5, D6) and, based on many further examples, demonstrates the opportunities and limits of modern mobility management for passenger transport. Strictly speaking, mobility management means comprehensive, modern marketing for public transport providers and communities, including information, advice and the co-ordination of services on offer. Although it has little direct impact on modal shift from private to public transport, mobility management is invaluable as a foundation and complement to other measures. The report describes the elements of successful mobility management in an international context. It incorporates a host of contributions from NRP41 and, in particular, the case studies and evaluations of the potential for `combined mobility', an analysis of the obstacles preventing increased support of cyclists and pedestrians, and a generally rather critical evaluation of the new telecommunications solutions for transport control. Finally, the report provides an insight into the impact of sociological change on the mobility of the population generally, and that of senior citizens in particular.
