Samenvatting

The MOBILATE project is a European cooperation between Germany, Finland, Italy, Hungary and the Netherlands. The aim of this project is to get a better insight into the mobility of elderly people in order to improve the conditions for the wanted mobility in later life. Therefore, information has been gathered on: personal backgrounds, for example, education, age, and health; and on environment characteristics such as services, residential area, transport facilities, social networks and leisure behaviour. This information has been gathered using a structured questionnaire among a stratified sample of the population of Maastricht and Margraten, both located in the Netherlands. In this paper, the first findings are presented. It is remarkable that the differences between urban and non-urban areas are small in this first descriptive analysis, and that the findings are sometimes not in the direction expected before. Extra attention is paid to the first results on the Maastricht demand response transport system: Transport on Measure (In Dutch: 'Vervoer op Maat'). This concerns a transport system which brings people from door-to-door. However, some concessions have to be made in order to get an efficient and payable transport system. However, the system seems to meet some of the problems, which elderly people have. It is also clear that some improvement in this transport system should take place. When people have alternatives, they prefer more individual solutions: walking, car and cycling. For the covering abstract of the conference see ITRD E206647.
