Samenvatting

The Dutch National Travel Survey (MON) of AVV Transport Research Centre may contribute to the supply of information around the theme of Sustainable Mobility. Currently AVV, CBS and RIVM are discussing the possibilities of a tailor-made survey extension for emission calculations. This extension is necessary because, due to international agreements, the Netherlands is obliged to deliver traffic emission data. Until 1999 the CBS Personen Auto Panel (PAP) produced an important part of these data, but then this survey was ended. Since then the PAP data were extrapolated using data from the Onderzoek Verplaatsingsgedrag. This however causes the reliability of the results to decrease gradually. The tailor-made survey will mainly collect data on mileage and fuel consumption of private cars and motorbikes. The sample will be drawn randomly from respondents who indicated on the MON basic-questionnaire that they own one or more cars or motorbikes. Because of this approach the survey is very cost-effective and it does not suffer from the under- reporting problem of leased cars. The survey has an information target of 1000-1250 cars and 250 motorbikes. The emission survey will probably start as a pilot survey. Once the results prove to be sufficiently reliable, the survey may be continued on a yearly basis as a replacement of the current extrapolation method. (Author/publisher)
