Samenvatting

Part of the Netherlands transportation policy intends to create a better quality of life in cities, or in other terms a more lasting and sustainable urban environment. This will be achieved by an urban strategy, which will reduce the number of car kilometres. The urban strategy contains: (1) a redesign of urban roads; (2) parking policy; (3) goods distribution centres; (4) bicycle policy; and (5) an administrative organization tuned to regional level. All these and other elements should cause a convenient urban climate or the so-called city as a place for more acceptable and friendly traffic. The concept of that city is expressed in the terms of reference, which are described in the appendix.
