This report compares the results of two household surveys, carried out within the Grenoble area. One was undertaken in 1978 and the other in 1985. About 4000 people were surveyed, and of these 619 in the 1985 sample, and 527 in the 1978 sample were over 60 years old. Mobility levels were measured by the number of trips made and their average journey time. The sample was broken down by age range (60-69; 70-79; and 80 and over); sex; whether they had a job; whether they lived alone or not; or whether they held a driving licence or not. In general, less trips were made by all groups in 1985 than in 1978. This decrease can be accounted for by the decrease in the use of two wheeled vehicles and walking. Public transport use showed no change. A slight increase in car use was found.
