Samenvatting

Population growth and a rapid rise in the number of motor vehicles in major Brazilian cities have contributed to the deteriorating conditions of mobility and transportation problems such as high rates of traffic accidents, traffic congestion, air pollution and insufficient public transportation services. Attempts to solve these problems and therefore to improve urban mobility include the use of ITS type technology. The potential for expanding this technology in Brazil is enormous. The challenge is an innovative financing problem, and for that a public private partnership is essential.
