Samenvatting

It has been acknowledged in recent times that current policies on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) emphasize achieving significant reductions in traffic accidents and road congestion, however it seems not entirelyclear the role ITS plays and will play in supporting complex multimodal logistics. To address this challenge a feasibility study on the deployment of Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) technology @ 5.9 GHz is presented as a contribution to help to define the role of ITS in multimodal logistics. A method consisting of flow mapping plus network simulation has been developed to identify the requirements that a DSRC test bed placed in a port will have to meet in terms of vehicle and data traffic and information exchange.
