Samenvatting

This paper is intended to bring together the results of animal studies, physical model experiments, and isolated tissue investigations. The paper combines the measured strain induced changes for in vitro neural components with the topographic estimates of strain occurring during an inertial loading. The aim is to present a model for intracellular calcium changes throughout the brain immediately post impact. These maps of the calcium events are compared to pathology obtained from subhuman primate studies conducted under similar loading conditions. This approach is intended to provide insight into the relationships between the macroscopic loading parameters and the associated tissue injury.
