Samenvatting

This paper presents a procedure for modelling interdependencies among vehicle emissions. It presents a systematic assessment of the relationships between the main emissions associated with automobile use. Twelve models for a wide range of emissions tests were estimated using three stage least squares to account for the simultaneous determination of each emission value and the identification of the statistically significant variables of influence in each of the three emissions equations. Direct elasticity measures, to calculate changes in levels of one pollutant on another, were synthesised from the modelling results. The findings of this paper have many implications in transport urban planning and policies, and can be used to assess the impacts on the other two pollutants of policies directed at reducing one of the pollutants.
