UnUntil recently, advanced adaptive traffic control strategies such as MOVA and SCOOT could not be simulated easily in microscopic traffic simulation models. This was a significant drawback because it meant that many of the most important parts of the UK road network could not be modelled with the degree of accuracy required. This situation changed recently when interfaces between microscopic traffic simulation models and SCOOT began to be developed. Now TRL has developed a new software package, PCMOVA which allows the traffic engineer to test explicitly MOVA adaptive traffic signal control strategies on the desktop within the S-Paramics microscopic traffic simulation model. A VISSIM compatible version of PCMOVA is also under development at TRL and is expected to be available later this year. (Author/publisher).
