Samenvatting

This paper considers the main atmospheric pollutants generated by road traffic, and the major variables that have effects on the rates of the emissions; such as total volume of traffic; the technical characteristics of the various vehicle types and general traffic conditions. The knowledge of the current levels and the prediction of the future levels of the rates of emissions from road passenger vehicles are vital to assess any transport policy to be implemented. A literature review has been done on the modelling approaches of road traffic vehicle emissions and the modelling methods, which existed elsewhere in the globe, this is not included in this paper. A preliminary conceptional framework for modeling vehicle emissions in an urban area was developed, and a methodological approach for modeling vehicles emission was proposed.
