Samenvatting

15.000 negligent drivers were issued with several different types of warning letters, varying in threat intensity and degree of personalized style, to determine their relative effectiveness in reducing accidents and violations. The main conclusion from this investigation is that a warning letter treatment is to some extent successful in reducing accidents and violations when compared with the control group who received no letter. A cost benefit analysis of the warning letter program is included.
