The results of a first survey into the travel mode decision process of inhabitants of the Transport District of Groningen are presented. The aim of the investigation was to get an insight into the underlying motives and possible preconceived ideas and misperceptions motorists have in favour of the car at the expense of alternative means of transport. Insight into these matters could be used as a stepping-stone for more detailed policy arrangements to influence (possible) modal choice behaviour in the Transport District of Groningen. A questionnaire (a mobility monitor) was given to motorists on the main traffic and transport connections with the city of Groningen.
