Road safety monitor 2010; Developments in casualties, casualty rate, policy and road user behaviour in the year 2009. This report discusses the recent road safety developments. First the developments of the number of road fatalities (up to and including the year 2009) and the number of serious road injuries (up to and including the year 2008) will be discussed. From this moment on, the expression 'serious road injuries' will be used to indicate the group of road traffic casualties that have been admitted to hospital with at least 'moderate’ injury according to the Maximum Abbreviated Injury Scale (MAIS), which is to say, expressed in a MAIS of two or higher. The developments of the road traffic casualty rates (fatalities or serious road injuries), road safety measures and developments of traffic behaviour will also be dealt with.
