Samenvatting

The Federal Land of Hessen (Germany) is probably a region with one of the densest motorway networks in Europe. Consequently, many control systems have already been connected to the Traffic Control Center (TCC) at Russelsheim. Caused by the increasing traffic demand, it has become necessary to extend the TCC by intelligent tools for monitoring, control and management. For that goal the Hessen road authority has started a big software development project aiming in the extension of the TCC by intelligent tools. So new software will be implemented for data completion (plausibility check, data completion, traffic flow analysis), prediction (pattern prediction, estimation of delay time in case of congestion, self-learning travel speed prediction), traffic analysis (traffic state classification, incident analysis and traffic situation analysis) and network control/coordination and management (alternative route guidance, generation of warning messages, coordination of overlapping control systems, network management). The first phases of the project including all specifications, the data completion sub-system as well as the traffic analysis sub-system are already in the implementation phase. The whole TCC-extension will be operable by the end of the running year.
