Samenvatting

This report describes the results of a study into the factors influencing the development of personal mobility during the period between 1986 and 1993. Mobility development consists of the distance travelled as a car driver, car passenger, by train, by regional public transport, urban public transport and bicycle. A comparison has been drawn between the development observed and the development projected using the Mobility Explorer. Here ten influencing factors have been distinguised which are understood to determine mobility development in The Netherlands in the medium term. These factors are: demography, the student free public transport pass, car ownership, employment, national income, private incomes, variable car costs, the length of the motorway network, public transport fares, and average journey time development for both car and public transport. During the period between 1986 and 1993, a 15% growth in mobility was observed. (A)
