Samenvatting

Recent articles (in Volume 7, Numbers 1 & 2) have addressed issues 'about' road safety as it is currently constructed rather than 'for' road safety as it might be constructed to reduce road danger and encourage sustainable transport. By reference to these previous articles, this article raises issues which it is argued are part of the 'road safety' ideology which effectively prevents safety of non-motorised road users being valued by 'road safety' authorities. The article seeks to examine why current 'road safety' cannot provide the setting required for a 'safe' transport system without both safety and convenience for all road users. (A)
