Mortality amongst young males aged between 15 and 24 years differ sharply from that in younger age groups. In 1980, the mortality rate for this sub-group was 114 per 100. 000, as compared with a rate of 42 per 100. 000 in the corresponding group of females. It is increasing in all EEC countries and can be attributed essentially to traffic accidents, which are three times more frequently the cause of death in males than females.
