During 1979, there were 197196 reported motor vehicle accidents, an increase of 5.8% over the total of 186163 accidents reported in 1978. This year, there were increases of 4.2% in fatal accidents and 7.6% in persons killed. Accidents involving personal injuries increased 7.2% and persons injured ingreased 6.7%. Property damage only accidents increased 5.1% from the previous year.
