Samenvatting

Much research has been written in recent decades supporting the relationship between sleep deprivation and automobile crashes. Evidence for, and identification of, risk factors for sleep related crashes is limited. However, there are some common risk factors and populations at increased risk that have been reported in some of the literature. The major issues that have been recognized recently as linking sleep deprivation and traffic accidents are covered in this article, as well as some recommendations based on current evidence. Lastly, a listing of Internet websites for obtaining current research on the drowsy driving issue is also provided. (Author/publisher)
