Samenvatting

It is approximate to describe the structure of accidents in terms of processes. On this basis, four major process fields can be identified in the development and treatment of accidents. 1. Environmental processes as a result of which hazards are constantly being generated. 2. Decision processes as a result of which an accident vector is may be directed or the inevitability of its denouement advanced. 3. Processes of arrest. 4. Processes of accident investigation. This paper is a brief exploration of the nature of those process fields, with an endeavour to orient some of the associated problems and research patterns that merit attention.
