Samenvatting

In Canada, motor vehicle traffic accidents (MVTA) are the 3rd largest cause of potential years of life lost (PYLL) before age 65. Their annual economic impact has been estimated in the billions of dollars. In order to establish a nationwide monitoring system, the age standardized rates of MVTA deaths, injuries and hospital separations were examined. Regional and provincial risk patterns were studied, along with an examination of changes in these patterns associated with changes in risk factors.
