Motorcycle daytime headlight use and accidents : an example of inaccurate risk compensation?

Auteur(s)

Samenvatting

Data were collected on motorcyclists' use of daytime headlights on the road and the level of use on accident involved motorcycles. It was found, contrary to expectations, that daytime headlight users were overinvolved in multivehicle collisions. The results are discussed from several viewpoints including Wilde's theory of risk homeostasis and Fuller's conceptualisation of driving behaviour as threat avoidance.
