The capability of CSA Standard D230 to effectively evaluate the performance characteristics of currently available motorcycle helmets is examined. Current standard helmets test procedures provide some assurance that helmet will protect the wearer if: the initial blow to the helmeted test headform is characteristic of that received in an accident; the headform adequately models the head of the human wearer; and the response of the system and the acceptable limits bear some relation to the biomechanics of head injury.
