Samenvatting

This paper outlines a community based motorcycle road safety program conducted by Road Safe Barwon in conjunction with other local agencies. The idea was to develop a local community based program based on as much scientific information and data as possible. The program was developed in 2001 and implemented in 2002, 2003 and 2004. The program involved several key elements including formation of a committee, preliminary research and data analysis, community consultation, program development, program implementation and evaluation. The program took a multi action approach involving road condition improvements, educational activities for riders and also drivers and special police enforcement activities with media publicity.
