Samenvatting

The article describes an increase in the number of motorcycles with the consequent increase in accidents, statistics being provided for part of 1976. The results of surveys, including one by TRRL, are considered and the age groups, type of collision, machine and injuries occurring in motorcycle accidents noted. From these findings, areas for improvement are identified. In discussing the avoidance of accidents, comparisons are made between different types of crash helmets and wearers of the 'jet helmet' found to be more likely to suffer facial injuries. Mention is also made of recent developments to protect the legs.
