A survey was conducted to investigate 1000 drivers' opinions about drink-driving and random breath testing. Travellers on ferries between Holyhead and Dun Laoghaire completed questionnaires. They were asked to prioritise a list of tasks of police officers and to answer questions relating to drink driving, breath testing, and their driving habits. Most participants agreed that police powers should be extended to carry out random breath testing on drivers. More than 20% of drivers admitted following the car in front too closely and to driving aggressively. More than 70% admitted breaking speed limits. Just over 6% admitted to driving over the alcohol limit but 42.6% thought it unlikely that they would be caught driving when over the alcohol limit. Women were more likely to abide by road-traffic legislation than men.
