Driving on a motorcycle has become more safe, not alone absolutely but also relatively. Before 1975 the number of fatalities was 1211 per year, in 1987 there were only 876 fatalities, while the number of motorcycle ownership has tripled. The research has had a part of the positive development.Motorcycle accident studies, improvement in the design of motorcycles, and research into the behaviour of motorcyclists have contributed to this decrease in accidents.
