Samenvatting

Communications systems for public safety operations are often incompatible within and across jurisdictions. Mobile Broadband Wireless Access (MBWA) helps meet public protection and disaster response (PPDR) interoperability needs by providing internet-based networking. One technology that helps improve MBWA network capacity is multi-antenna signal (MAS) processing software. This technology uses a small cluster of antennas in base stations and/or user terminals to expand network capacity, spectral efficiency, and range, helping to meet public safety operational needs. This paper discusses how MAS-enabled systems enhance MBWA networks in public safety communications, and focuses on technologies and standards that support this role.
