Samenvatting

This paper presents an overview of the work of the Danish Road Accident Analysis Group. This carried out in-depth analysis of seventeen head-on collisions. Data collection was performed at the site of the accident, involving various professional interests. The vehicles were inspected, police and hospital records were examined, and the involved parties were interviewed by a psychologist. The data was analysed and results showed that the main accident factors were excessive speed, drunk driving and driving under the influence of illegal drugs. The actively offending drivers were all male and mostly under the age of forty. In-depth analysis is found to be useful because factors are brought to light which might not otherwise appear, but in this study the sample gathered is too small to be used for generalisation.
