Samenvatting
The parameters in a statistical theory of multiple-lane traffic have been determined from two independent sets of data. The numerical values of the parameters calculated by 4 different methods of estimation are in essential agreement with one another. Qualitative conclusions are also drawn from the cumulative distribution of the observed speeds. The data suggest the important role of adaptive human behaviour in determining the characteristics of congested flow.
