Samenvatting

The Netherlands lack a surveillance system on all categories of accidents (traffic, home and leisure, industrial, sports and violence) by which both medical data and data useful for the prevention of accidents is being recorded. Such a surveillance system would be highly desirable. This report deals with the results of the first phase of a feasibility study on a uniform surveillance system on accidents and their victims, to be used at Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments in the Netherlands. During this first phase, an inventory was drawn up of the data presently being recorded at A&E departments, the experiences with the systems used for datacollection and the needs for information on accidents and their victims.
