In the past strategies to solve the problems of mobility were mainly aimed at the journeys to work. This report studies the problems around the recreational journeys. During 1990 66 percent of all journeys were caused by recreational traffic and 50 percent of all driven kilometres, from which 79 percent by car. To decrease these car kilometres the policy is modified and is now aimed at the prevention of recreational mobility by car. This can be done to improve the accessibility of points of recreational attraction by other transport modes, like public transport or bicycle, and by more possibilities for recreation in the vicinity of the dwelling, which can decrease the number of car kilometres.
