Samenvatting

This paper describes the process by which the ITS Master Plan for the City of Seattle was developed. In order to describe the application of the National ITS Architecture of the USA, this paper begins by providing context for the work by describing the existing conditions. Next, the method by which the Architecture was applied is described step by step. One of the key projects identified in the ITS Master Plan - and one that meets one of the primary objectives of the National ITS Architecture: interoperability - consisted of integrating the city's ITS subsystems. This paper provides a brief description of this project. Finally, key thoughts and lessons learned throughout the development of the plan are discussed. Advantages and disadvantages of using the Architecture, ways that the Architecture could have been used more efficiently, and ways in which the Architecture will be used in the future in Seattle are discussed.
