Samenvatting

China has mainly adopted the traditional development strategy characterized by heavy consumption of resources and extensive management over a long term, with major emphasis laid on speed and quantity and little importance attached on benefits and quality, great attentions paid to extensive reproduction and few attentions to intensive reproduction. At present, after the arrival the 21st century, such a development strategy obviously goes against the economic law and natural law and will become a key factor to restrict economic and social development. The development of social economy has its inherent law. We will certainly meet with the traffic problems confronted by the developed countries, some of which have appeared in advance. Therefore, China needs to carefully consider the direction of her own transportation development. Especially before the arrival of an information society and a knowledge economy, to accelerate the application of high and new technologies and improve our transportation system is becoming increasingly urgent.
