This book is about nature and roads, and particularly about how nature is taken into account when constructing and maintaining roads in The Netherlands. It gives an overview of the knowledge and experience the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (RWS) has accumulated in recent years on the three subdomains of `fragmentation', `verges' and `compensation'.
