Samenvatting

The National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management (NILIM), Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MLIT) is researching and developing the ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) for Pedestrian. The system will provide information on barrier-free facilities and routes to support mobility for the visually impaired and wheelchair users. We have demonstrated that an information service system using RF-ID (radio frequency identification) tags to identify the exact position of the pedestrian is capable of providing reliable information to the visually impaired and wheelchair users. The needs that precede practical application are: to verify the maintenance costs for the RF-ID tags and digital maps; demonstrate information service validity for the users, particularly the visually impaired; and to evaluate the cost effectiveness of the system. To these ends, a long-term monitor experiment will be conducted on actual roads. (Author/publisher) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E208431.
